There are many ways you can keep yourself busy in the house. Among them are some rooms where you need a key authorization.
The sports hall, the smoking room and the large basement room with two table soccer and a table tennis table are freely accessible. Furthermore the large outdoor area with tables and benches, nice seats at the water, a grill and a table tennis table invites you to stay outside when the weather is fine. To reserve the grill for an evening, use the RLH- bookingtool.
For the fitness room and the music rooms you can apply for the key authorization from Mr. Weiss, our property manager, after signing the usage regulations.
For other rooms, however, not everybody gets a key, these are, among others, the billiard room, the TV/beamer room and the bicycle repair shop. In order to get into the rooms you have to contact the corresponding work groups.
We live in the quiet and green Hamburg district of Lokstedt in the district of Eimsbüttel. The housing estate borders directly on the Lohbekpark and the Lohbekpond.
The Rudolf-Laun-Haus (RLH) consists of two interconnected houses. House 1, which is seen from the street, has six floors and house 2 has four floors. Together, the Rudolf-Laun-Haus can accommodate 182 people.
On foot you can reach Edeka in the south and Rewe or Aldi in the north in 10 minutes. By bus you can reach the Nedderfeld Center with many more shopping possibilities, like Media Markt, Obi, BOC, another Aldi and Edeka.
The highly frequented 5-bus line departs from the eastbound "Siemersplatz" stop or the "Brunsberg" stop.
The northern stop Behrmannplatz is served by lines 22, 281, 392.
The stop Max-Tau-Straße in the southwest is served by lines 181, 381, there is also a "Stadtrad" station.
The U2 stop Hagenbecks Tierpark is about 15 minutes away on foot or three stops by bus.
Sufficient parking spaces are available in the neighborhood.
For the two-wheeled variants there is a secured bicycle cellar for residents, so that the bicycle cannot be stolen.
The Rudolf-Laun-Haus is especially suitable for medical and dental students who have to go to the UKE or for computer science students who have to go to the main campus and to the Informatikum.
The main campus can be reached with the bus line 5 with a 15-minute ride, to the HAW and the HCU the ride with the public transport is somewhat longer with 35 minutes.

The student residences of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg have a special feature, they have so-called protectors. Protectors are employees or members of the university or the teaching staff and live in or near the student houses for a longer period of time and advise them. Their task, as their name suggests, is to protect us from the Studentenwerk, our litigious neighbors, and occasionally from ourselves. Due to their many years of experience in these honorary activities, they can help the dormitory council or the student self-administration with many tips and tricks and contribute experience from previous years. They also help the residents with words and deeds, mediate in case of conflicts within the dormitory and support us in events or similar, which promotes the community of the residents.
So you can get an impression of the area.
